Metro Government

Where left meets right and everyone is confused

The bulk of the main offices for the Boulder-Springs Metroplex are located in a four square block area in central Boulder-Springs.  This area is bounded on the east and west by 17th Street and 19th Street, on the north and south by Judicial Center and Metro Center.  A pedestrian courtyard is accessible from all four streets.  The government of the Metroplex is broken into a number of segments and districts including county services. Traditional metropolitan suburbs fall, to an extent, under the Metroplex governmental umbrella.

City Attorney

young woman at deskThe City Attorney's (we don't remember her name right off the tops of our heads but we're sure it's in a file cabinet someplace) office is located at One Metro Center in Sub Basement 3. We don't know what she's talking about, but we do know that she spends a great deal of time on the telephone.

Most of the City Council membership feel that we don't really need a city attorney. They are concerned that a city attorney might decide to go looking into something that's really none of her damned business anyway. Running a city the size of Boulder-Springs is challenging enough without having a bunch of laws and regulations to get in the way.

City Council

The Metroplex City Council consists of three components: The office of the Council President, two Wing Councils. The structure of the Boulder-Springs City Councils is unique to metropolitan government. The split into two Wing Councils, left and right, is designed to present a consistently equal number of progressive and conservative voices to the adjudication of all issues before council. Detractors have often questioned the ability of this council to ever get anything done, sometimes Metroplex staff would likely agree. All councilmembers and council staff are located on the 11th floor of One Metro Center.

Office of the Mayor

The Mayor is the Chief Executive for the Metroplex and can be found at One Metro Center. The entire 10th Floor is allocated for the mayorial staff.
